III. Nursing Career Paths: ANM vs. GNM

1. ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife)

The Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) course is a 2-year diploma program focusing on basic nursing, maternal care, and community health, primarily aimed at rural healthcare. Eligibility requires a 12 th Pass.

  • Objective:Train personnel to assist in maternal and child health, primary healthcare services, and village-level immunization.
  • Core Subjects: Anatomy & Physiology, Sociology, Behavioral Sciences, Fundamentals of Nursing, First Aid, and Health Education.
2 Years Certificate/Diploma
Eligibility Criteria:
  • Minimum Age: 17 years on or before 31st December of the year of admission.
  • Educational Qualification: Must have passed 10+2 in Arts (Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Economics, Political Science, History, Geography, Business Studies, Accountancy, Home Science, Sociology, Psychology, and Philosophy) and English Core/Elective OR Science OR Health care Science - Vocational stream.
  • Medical Fitness: The candidate should be medically fit.

2. GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery)

The General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) is a 3-year diploma course designed to prepare students for technical nursing roles. it focuses on patient care, clinical skills, and medical-surgical management. The program includes subjects like Anatomy, Midwifery, and Pharmacology. Mangalayatan University.

  • Course Structure: Course Structure: Focuses on both theoretical knowledge and practical training in Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, Psychology, Nursing Foundations, First Aid, Medical-Surgical Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Child Health Nursing, and Midwifery.Career Scope: Graduates can work as staff nurses, home nurses, or community health nurses.Further Study: Students can pursue B.Sc. Nursing (Post Basic) after completing this course.

Eligibility Criteria:
  • Minimum Age: 17 years on or before 31st December of the year of admission.
  • No Maximum/Upper age limit (as per INC circular No.-11/23 dated 21 August 2023).
  • No age bar for ANM to GNM Candidates.
  • 10+2 with English: Min. 40% at the qualifying exam and English individually from any recognized board.
  • Vocational/Open School: Candidates from State Open Schools or NIOS are also eligible.
  • ANM Qualification: Passed ANM course candidates are eligible to enter GNM.
  • Medical Fitness: The candidate should be medically fit.

I. ANM Admission Criteria

Age Limit

Minimum 17 years (As on or before 31 December 2025).

Education Qualification
  • Passed HSC Examination (10+2) with English.
  • Minimum 40% marks in the qualifying examination.
  • Recognized Boards: MSBSHSE / AISSCE / CBSE / ICSE / SSCE / HSCE or equivalent.
  • Streams: Science / Arts / Commerce (Science Preferred).
Vocational Stream Eligibility (10+2 with English & 40% Marks):

Candidates from the Health Care Science vocational stream with the following subjects are also eligible:

Medical Laboratory Technology:
Laboratory Machine (Clinical Pathology, Haematology & Histopathology), Clinical Biochemistry, Microbiology.

II. GNM Admission Criteria

Age & Enrollment
  • Minimum 17 years (On or before 31 December 2025).
  • No Maximum/Upper age limit (As per INC circular No.-11/23).
  • No age bar for ANM to GNM Candidates.
  • Male candidates enrollment should not exceed 30% of total enrollment.
Educational Qualification
  • Passed HSC (10+2) with English, securing minimum 40% marks from MSBSHSE or recognized boards (AISSCE/CBSE/ICSE/SSCE/HSCE).
  • Any stream (Science/Arts/Commerce), preferably Science.
  • Qualified from State Open School or National Institute of Open School (NIOS) recognized by Govt.
  • Registered ANM with 10+2 qualification.
Vocational Stream (Health Care Science) - 10+2 with 40% Marks:
1. Medical Laboratory Technology:
Lab Machine (Clinical Pathology, Haematology & Histopathology), Clinical Biochemistry, Microbiology.
2. Yoga Anatomy and Physiology

3. X-RAY Technician:
Radiation Physics, Radiography (General), Radiography II.
4. Ophthalmic Techniques:
Special investigation, imaging & Radiograph (from a recognized CBSE board Centre).

5. Candidates are also eligible if qualified from the State Open School recognized by the State Government and the National Institute of Open School (NIOS) recognized by the Central Government.
6. Registered ANM with 10+2 qualification.:
Mandatory Criteria & Regulations:
Students must be Medically Fit.
Admitted once in a year.
Maharashtra State Domicile Mandatory.
Admission as per sanctioned strength (EC/GR).
Min. 50% of total sanctioned intake must be ensured.
